Amazon is bringing Alexa to hospitals and senior living communities in an effort to make residents’ and patients’ lives easier, the company said Monday. The program uses the virtual assistant’s Smart Properties features, which are designed to let business owners deploy Alexa-enabled devices at a scale beyond the home.
Northern Powergrid said severe gales had caused power cuts for more than 55,000 customers in the North East, while 88,000 customers in the Midlands, Cheshire, Merseyside, Wales and the South-West were still without power at midday yesterday.

The popularity of cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin might be on the rise, but so are crypto crimes. Canadian law enforcement said they caught one suspect who stole millions in cryptocurrency after some of the digital money was used to buy a rare username in a video game.
Hamilton Police in Ontario, Canada, said the suspect, referred to as a Hamilton youth, stole the $46 million Canadian, or $36 million, domain test in cryptocurrency from one victim via a SIM-swap attack last year, according to a statement from the police Wednesday. A SIM-swap is when someone who knows a password or PIN for a cellphone account contacts the provider and has them change the SIM card from a victim’s phone to one the scammer has access to. This allows the criminal to have full access to a victim’s phones and can bypass any two-factor authentication.
